Well I haven't been dead, just busy as hell although I have been checking in on the forum occasionally. Not to sound TOO gay but I miss you guys.
When I got back to the good ole US of A and affiliated w/ a new Navy Reserve unit, I was met w/ a few raised eyebrows. "You mean you are a Lieutenant and you haven't been mobilized yet." The term fresh meat was thrown about..and not in the way H means it. With the writing on the wall I started looking for good Active Duty jobs I could do and for a while it looked like I was coming back to England but that was not to be. Apparently, they think I had it too good for too long.
Instead, I will be going to Afghanistan with NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and will be in-country for 6 months.
I’ve started doing my research and sought out guys that have been there before me and to a man, they all said it was meaningful, rewarding work so I am looking forward to it. I am also assured that NATO has the best chowâ€â€not surprisingly really…as long as we keep the Brits in the bar and don’t let them anywhere near the kitchen.
Hopefully, I won't need any of my snap-shooting skills.

Good to hear from you!
I presume Afghanistan is better than Iraq.... shame you can't declare that Bora Bora is in the Axis of Evil and invade!
You question our culinary skills... the US gave the world Fast Food, SA delivered Nandos and the UK gave you curry!

Good to hear from you too Tim. I hope you have fun and stay away from nachos!
Do you know what area you'll be stationed at? Whatcha gonna do when you are there?

Yeah I'd take Bora Bora over Tora Bora any day...but Kabul trumps Baghdad.
Not sure but I think I'll be at the ISAF HQ.
Alex, You guys don't get credit for inventing curry and fast food may be bad for you but it does taste gooood--better than jellied eels or black pudding.

Hey Tim, if you happen to be near a wireless FM radio transmitter or Interweb terminal, tune in to Mario's Groove Collective on BFBS1 this Friday (Saturday 0030h Afghan-time) :-)

Mario just basically read my email out on the air and gave us a mention! That's right, Iron Lions London and Tim Angers :-D
He kinda got his knickers in a twist about what FFS and DoD stand for but he probably recorded his show before he got my reply this week... Anyhow, IL on the radio - hows that then? *G*
PS: Not even sure whether you are there yet - but you'll be famous with the Brits before you even get there -- hehe

Thanks for the shout out Ax. I am not there yet but I heard it at 4:20PM Eastern Standard Time.
The DJ said FSS, or something like that, instead of ISAF but I got the message. Cheers
I have one more week here in Washington DC, then 3 weeks of stateside training before I actually get downrange.

I didn't hear the bit about IL. Did you record it? He mentioned your e-mail and then my internet connection couldn't keep up and it started buffering (prob while he mentioned London) and when i got live again he was playing a song and then mentioned you and me by name after the song. Cool
Re: From beyond the grave By: IL-Axel Date: June 29, 2007, 08:41:49 pm
Hi Tim! Shame you didn't get everything but fret not because I have a recording :-)
I used FFS (For Fuck's Sake) in the email as an expression but he misunderstood it. Also he didn't know what DoD meant. But I'm sure you get the idea what I was talking about.
OK, before you go and play the dub please bear in mind that I had Lydia in mind (regarding the track). I do miss you too (and the team) but not like *that* of course ;-) Anyhow.. on with the show.http://www.ironlions.co.uk/media/groovecollective_29062007.mp3

ROFL - sorry mate
I should have written two emails, one about the song and one for the dedication.

Uh, Mario corrected himself today and properly bigged you up (again) as Lieutenant Angers (not Leftenant) :-)
Anyways, have a save tour of duty and don't forget to write!
Oh, and I just won a CD - somebody say listening to the radio doesn't have its rewards *G
